Steve Jobs was an American entrepreneur and technology executive who co-founded Apple in 1976 with Steve Wozniak and Ronald Wayne. Born in San Francisco and raised in California, he attended Reed College briefly before pursuing work in the emerging personal computer industry. Apple’s early success with the Apple II was followed by the Macintosh, whose graphical interface helped bring new approaches to personal computing to a wider audience.

Jobs left Apple in 1985 after a management dispute and founded NeXT, a computer company later acquired by Apple. He also became a leading figure at Pixar, helping establish it as a major animation studio. Returning to Apple, he became chief executive and oversaw products including the iMac, iPod, iPhone and iPad. His emphasis on integrating hardware, software and industrial design influenced the consumer technology industry. Jobs resigned as chief executive in August 2011 and died in October that year.
